Determinants of Performance in Smallholder Farmer Groups in Uganda

The performance of farmer groups is critical for the success farmer-led Agricultural Extension approach currently used in Uganda. This study examines factors affecting accessing agricultural extension and advisory services from National Advisory Services Eastern collected data 200 members 19 Performance was dependent variable, which perceived to be influenced by individual members’ objectives, participation culture, power distance, structure task, equity, reward allocation group activities. Farmer had a statistically significant positive relationship with distance equity. Group culture tasks negative performance. Members tended deflect losses beyond seasonality activities, quality farm inputs, poor training delivered service providers. providers need use political social capital possessed local leadership, community enhancing support collective groups. Since are sub-set wider community, this empirical brings into perspective role influencing smallholder farming communities.
